About My Poetry Collection
Through my life, I’ve undergone many changes in the people I can trust and the situations I have been able to go through. I gained clarity which led me to formulate poems that were powerful and raw. They were written from the persona of a villain queen who endured betrayal, hurt, and ridicule only to triumph. Through the writing process I was faced with some fear because I didn’t trust others and bearing my soul through my innermost thoughts was and is terrifying. However, I needed to get these poems out into the world and out of my system.
I decided to draw the symbol of a snake to represent myself in all of my poems. Snakes adapt, shed their skin, and are feared of though they’re harmless unless threatened just like any animal. They are misunderstood and treated badly simply for their strength and power being interpreted as a threat. A snake represents a creative life force, but also rebirth and transformation.
I used this animal to symbolize my creative growth in taking my situations and making art out of them, because at my core I am an artist. Through my situations I experienced a rebirth of sorts because I was thrust into the unknown and found new parts of myself. I also find myself changing constantly and never settling in one style, media, or aesthetic. My ever evolving nature once made me insecure but I am now sure that it’s there for a reason- to create often and generate brand new ideas constantly. Snakes also represent the elixir of immortality which is why we create as humans. Creating means leaving a mark on this world, claiming that you were here and you lived whether through art or words, relationships or achievements, we want a legacy to leave behind.
